Why should you wear high bar grips?

High bar grips help prevent blisters and rips, but they also give the gymnast extra grip and better control on the bar. That is essential for training safely on the high bar and for catching release moves reliably.

What do gymnasts use on the high bar?

High bar grips are among the most important pieces of equipment in men's artistic gymnastics. Underneath them, gymnasts usually wear wrist bandages or sweatbands. Gymnasts also use chalk to guarantee a better hold on the apparatus.

What is the difference between the (uneven) bars and the high bar?

The most obvious difference is that the high bar always has a single bar, while parallel and uneven bars always have two rails. The high bar is also a men's apparatus only. Among bars there are the parallel bars for men and the uneven bars for women. Men work mainly in support on the parallel bars, while women use the uneven bars for swinging elements, much like the high bar. The high bar has a metal rail, whereas the bars have two wooden rails.

What is the sport performed on the high bar called?

The original and best-known sport on the high bar is artistic gymnastics. Calisthenics has also become widespread and offers a looser, freer variant of gymnastics, practised mainly outdoors.

What are typical high bar elements?

Common high bar elements include the pullover, hip circle, kip and press. More advanced gymnasts also perform giant swings, pirouettes and release moves.
